5518S + 5519S Silver Mop™ – White Goat Hair
Before you start using your mop brush, it’s a good idea to use a technique called “knifing” to remove any hairs that may be loose so they don’t end up in your painting later. Use the back of a butter knife and simply comb through the brush head a few times. Now you’re ready to paint!
These white goat hair mops are incredibly versatile. They can be used in acrylic paint, oil paint, pastels, and charcoal for blending and softening color, or in watercolor for washes, lifting color, creating texture and painting in clouds. You can also use them to apply gold leaf to a painting, remove debris from a clay sculpture, brush dust off of ceramics and so much more.
When using this mop, it’s important to note that the hairs stay soft when wet and will leave very little texture behind in your strokes.

Black goat hair mops are the brush to reach for when you want texture to your blending marks. Unlike our white goat hair mops, these brushes stiffen when wet with paint and will leave a more pronounced texture to your strokes. They can be used for a variety of purposes, including blending and softening color in oils, acrylic, pastels and charcoal. You can also use them in watercolor to lift color, lay down washes, add texture and more.
Ultra-soft goat hair bristles are perfect for blending and softening color with oils or acrylics. These brushes can also be used to create backgrounds and washes with watercolors.
